Trolls World Tour a joy for the eyes and ears

Trolls World Tour a joy for the eyes and ears

Universal Pictures’ successful animated musical was released today on the main digital platforms

Do not be discouraged by the global emergency Universal Pictures International Italy but rather, focus on the unifying message of music to launch them the directly online release of Trolls World Tour, the sequel to Trolls, the film that features colored dolls with cotton hair and love for singing, dancing, and hugging.

From 10 April it will be possible to rent the film and view it on various platforms that have included it in the catalog, from Infinity to Apple TV, up to Rakuten and among others also Chili who had already hosted another Universal online release, Emm a, a new reinterpretation of Jane Austen’s novel with Ana-Taylor Joy. For those who do not yet know Trolls you need to know that it is an animated film that stands out for its musical characteristic: the Trolls, in fact, inspired by the dolls created in 1959 by Thomas Dam, are creatures that express themselves through so much but so much music.

In 2017 when Trolls – the film arrived in theaters, effectively coloring them with musical hits including the Oscar nominee Can’t Stop the Feeling, sung by the protagonists of the original version, Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake, it was immediately understood that the DreamWorks Animation set itself the goal of speaking to the youngest without the obligation, very Pixarian (from Disney Pixar), of submitting a message for the older ones.

If the first chapter focused on a simple yet difficult to implement the message of finding your own music, your inner light, and happiness with what makes us “feel good”, Trolls World Tour has broader ambitions and judging from the first vision, perfectly manages to underline the value of diversity as richness and unity is strength, a concept that is needed now more than ever.

But let’s go back to where we were for a moment: we had left the Pop Trolls princess, Poppy (who in the first film had the voice of the singer Elisa) in a world finally in harmony, with her friend-love Branch next to her, again full of color and desire to embrace. In this new chapter, Elisa leaves the role of the new queen Poppy to Francesca Michielin while dubbing Branch, Stash, singer of the group The Kolors.

The new entry to highlight is the singer Elodie struggling with the dubbing of the alleged villain of the film, the intense rocker Regina Barb. In this new adventure, a revelation will come for Poppy: the trolls of which she is queen are only one of the six existing tribes and if they are devoted to pop, the others are devoted to funk, country, techno, classical and rock.

But if harmony is paramount, how can one imagine that trolls lived apart? Judging from the story of the king, Poppy’s father, each tribe wanted their music and therefore identity to prevail.

The Trolls are back, from Christmas gift to musical saga here is Poppy & Co.

And in the wake of this prevarication philosophy, it is now the queen of hard rock, Barb (Elodie) who wants to destroy all other types of music and make rock reign supreme. It’s up to Poppy, Branch and their friends to stop him. On the way to the final battle, Poppy and with her the spectator will discover many truths, including one declared half way: the story, often we add it, the winners write.

What she was told by her father, Poppy will discover not to be the truth and in a message that goes beyond the conventional one dedicated to children, Trolls World Tour takes a step forward towards a more adult reflection while supporting this strand with that lightness and energy given by the filter of music which makes the learning process fluid and natural.

As Poppy moves forward on her path to Queen Barb, she encounters different Trolls and through them, different genres of music. We don’t sing just because and when we are happy, there is the melancholy of the country, the contemplation of classical music, the energy of reggaeton, the enthusiasm of techno and also the enchanting spirit of smooth jazz.

To write and underline these concepts seem simple and easy to explain but at Trolls World Tour we must recognize the merit of having transformed them into a metaphor on cultural identities, something more serious than a superficial dance of praise to the power of music and its truth.

If before his adventure to discover the epiphany of new voices and genres, Poppy thought that harmony was fundamental, even if at the expense of differences, the new teaching, useful to all of us and here explained with the strength of the voices that meet for a unique sound and from the rhythm of the “heart” is that “true harmony requires many different voices”.

In this moment where the whole world is in lockdown waiting to be able to go out and share again, Trolls World Tour is the perfect film for young and old, a lot of different music, a lot of harmony, many beautiful and unique differences and a gigantic hymn to the strength of the ‘Union.
