Wait, Are Nokia Phones Leaving Europe? Here’s What’s Happening!

Nokia Phones Leaving Europe?

Alright, you may not know this, but I came across information that Nokia phones are being removed from the European market, and I actually did not see that coming. I mean, I’m sure you remember those Nokia phones we used to have — those black and white ones that were pretty much indestructible. But now, they’re like, leaving Europe altogether. Wild, right?

So, here’s what’s going on. The company called HMD Global, which has been making Nokia phones from time to time, is no longer selling Nokia phones in Europe. They still make and sell Nokia gadgets in other parts of the world, like Asia, Africa, and Latin America, but if you’re in Europe, you’re out of luck.

Nokia Phones Leaving Europe

In essence, Nokia was such a big deal in the mobile phone market way before everyone switched to smartphones. Nokia’s phone-making division was later sold to another Finland-based company called HMD Global, and they’ve been manufacturing and selling Nokia-branded smartphones ever since. However, earlier this year, HMD decided to focus its energy on producing phones under its own brand rather than just the Nokia brand. That’s why Nokia phones are gradually exiting Europe.

I looked it up, and indeed, searching for a phone on the official European Nokia website is like searching for a phone in a store with no phones. They still provide software support for the phones that are already out there, though. But here’s the weird part: So far, HMD hasn’t said how much longer they’ll continue offering that support. If you have a Nokia phone, you might want to keep an eye on that.

By the way, don’t confuse Nokia phones with the part of Nokia that deals with network infrastructure. The real Nokia is still a giant in that field and holds tons of tech Intellectual Property Rights. In fact, some of those patents have led to court battles with companies like Apple and Samsung over such issues.
